I Hate My CPAP

I hate my CPAP. That's what we hear from a lot of OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) patients in our dental practice.

Yesterday's post was more broad on the topic of sleep disorders, but I wanted to make sure to stress the CPAP thing. I've heard numbers that suggest that about 20% of the population suffers from sleep breathing disorders and/or apnea. Of that number, somewhere between 50-80% of patients hate the CPAP and quit wearing it.

What next? Do nothing and let your body and your vital organs take the hit of decreased oxygen compromising their function? Not a wise choice if you want to live a long and full life. Go back to your CPAP provider and ask for adjustments to the mask, force of the air, etc.? A logical choice, but good luck with that. If you've given up on the CPAP and are allowing your OSA to go untreated, then you should definitely consider an oral appliance like the ones we can provide in our dental office.

Oral sleep appliances open the airway by holding the jaw in a forward position. An overwhelming majority of patients who use this device are satisfied with it, use it regularly, and say they intend to continue using it.
