Dr. Moreau Certified in ACLS

Dr. Moreau has completed certification in the American Heart Association's Advanced Cardiac Life Support protocol as presented by the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation (DOCS) of which he is a member. DOCS tailors the extensive material specifically to dental office applications in compliance with requirements of the Louisiana State Board of Dentistry for dentists who administer oral conscious sedation in their dental offices. Dr. Moreau worked as a Basic Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) at both Charity Hospital and Mercy Hospital emergency rooms in New Orleans while in college and dental school. Through these experiences, Dr. Moreau recognizes the need for this training to benefit not only his patients but the community at large.

Local Magazine Features Makeover Candidate

When "Inside Northside" magazine decided to plan a feature called "New Year, New You" and treat one of their readers to a makeover to start the year in 2008, they called Dr. Moreau for help with the dental part of the makeover. Back in November, we met with Dr. Eric Tabor, dermatologist, and reps from the magazine to view the applications and make recommendations for components of the makeover. Once the candidate was selected by the magazine's committee, we had less than one month (really more like 2-3 weeks) to complete the whole transformation. Kimberly Lambert, the chosen subject, underwent a comprehensive exam and cleaning in our office, followed by BriteSmile whitening. You can see the full story in "Inside Northside", Jan.-Feb. 2008.

How 'Bout Dem Tigers?!

I hate to say it, because anyone who knows me knows that I am an alum and eternally devoted fan of the Crimson Tide, but being a resident of Louisiana for almost 27 years now, The LSU Tigers have to be my #2 team. But today, they ARE the nation's #1 team!!

True, they had two losses this season, and both were in triple overtime. But, Tiger fans owe a debt to Alabama's QB (Sarah Jessica) John Parker Wilson...except for his fumble at the wrong end of the field in the Alabama/LSU game, LSU would have logged a 3rd loss! But, as it were, LSU was able to capitalize on that fumble and come from behind to beat Alabama in the final minutes of the game. I guess that's what you'd expect of a #1 team.

Also, I was very proud at the end of last night's game when, first the fans in the stands, and then the LSU team when gathered around the anchor desk for the closing comments, chanted "S-E-C!!" The SEC has to be the toughest conference in the nation! It's hard to emerge at the end of the season without an "L" ...even the SEC teams with the worst records can stand up against some of the better teams in other conferences.

And did anybody else notice the bling around Jamarcus Russell's neck while he was being interviewed? It said "Bama Boy" with a big (Crimson Tide) elephant head!! Nice of an LSU standout to give a nod to his Alabama roots! Thanks.

FOOTNOTE: Dr. Moreau, an LSU Dental School grad and lifelong New Orleanian, pledges allegiance to LSU, but under certain circumstances with proper arm twisting at home, he will support my Tide.

A Whistlestop Farewell to 2007

Well, the Christmas tree has been stripped naked and dragged to the end of the driveway, and our college student daughter has returned to campus. But, I'm just not willing to concede 2007 just yet. As always, the last few months of the year became a blur. I look back and wonder why life has to pass so quickly sometimes. I want to hang on to 2007 just a bit longer and savor some of the wonderful experiences that came and went without the luxury of dwelling.

From a business perspective, not starting in order of importance, it was the most successful year ever for MoreSmiles. We exceeded all our goals, added a new fully-equipped operatory, continued to expand the services we are able to offer to patients with the dental laser technology and oral conscious sedation, and added two top-notch team members who you, no doubt, will come to love and appreciate as they make all your experiences at MoreSmiles even more wonderful.
Over the holidays, our entire team traveled together by train to a nearby city for a weekend retreat and Christmas shopping. Our daughter had traveled home from college one weekend on the train, and a couple of our team members commented that they had never ridden a train. So, we decided to plan a train trip in lieu of our annual Christmas dinner celebration.

What a fun weekend it turned out to be! And we were able to step back from the daily routine and take some fresh looks at how we can better serve our patients.
Dr. Moreau and Cindi make plans for 2008 on board Amtrak.

Left to right, me, Jill, Theresa, Melissa and Cindi wait patiently at the train station.

Jill's mom and grandmother came out for a quick reunion at the depot in her hometown as we passed through.

The travel time provided a great opportunity
for team training via laptop-viewed
continuing education DVD's.

The whole gang enjoyed the festive Christmas decorations at the hotel.
